Stephen Cunningham is the practice principal, and has been a physiotherapist for over 12 years. Steve took over Nepean Physiotherapy Centre in 1998 and has been proudly providing a fantastic personal service to the people of Penrith and surrounding areas since that time.
Steve has a close association with NSW Touch Football Association and the Australian Touch Football Association and has travelled extensively both nationally and internationally with elite teams. However, Steve prides himself on treating every one of his patients with the same level of care and attention and many people have benefitted from his superior diagnostic and injury management ability.
When he is not working Steve enjoys spending time with his family, which now includes four young sons. He has been an elite athlete, with his athletic achievements including a five time Hawaiian Ironman finisher and a seven time Australian Ironman finisher, including a third place in 1988.
Steve contines to compete in various sports. You will generally find him every Sunday, all year round enjoying an ocean swim.
Michiel Van Straten
Michiel graduated as a Physiotherapist at the end of 1999 in the Netherlands (Utrecht). Since graduating he has spent 16 years managing musculoskeletal injuries in a private practice environment. As a student Michiel worked as a personal trainer. His hobbies include going to the gym, playing squash and also tennis
Michiel has continued to undertake post-graduate continuing education. Most recently he completed the Kinesio Taping course (frequently used in professional sports). He is interested in manual therapy and has recently studied novel mobilisation techniques which allow the therapist to restore early pain free range of motion.
After travelling to Australia in 2001, he and his wife decided to migrate. Michiel is a registered Physiotherapist in the Netherlands and Australia and is a senior member of the team at Nepean Physiotherapy Centre.
Steff joined our team in 2012. Steff has worked for the Newcastle Jets A-league Soccer team andSports trained for the Newcastle All City AFL Club and Dudley Redhead FC Soccer Club. She recently supported Australia in the Touch Football Trans Tasman championships.Steff believes that optimal management of musculoskeletal injuries is achieved with quality manual therapy, patient education and specific rehabilitation tailored to her patients needs.
Steff enjoys playing Touch football, Oz-tag, Tennis, Soccer (and she is a champion – feel free to ask her the details) and going to the gym.
Steff has completed her McKenzie level 1 Accreditation and her APA Sports Level 1. She a member of the APA Paediatric Physiotherapy Group, and has completed a number of courses in Paediatric Physiotherapy.
A graduate of Sydney University, Elisabeth joined our team in 2013. During her time at University, Elisabeth was the recipient of multiple awards and dinstinctions, including academic scholarships and Australian Rotary Health organisation scholarships in her 2nd, 3rd and 4th years.
Elisabeth has a diverse range of experience including Women’s Premier League soccer physiotherapist, aged care rehabilitation, chest physiotherapy, and casting. Elisabeth is committed to achieving the best possible outcomes for each patient she sees by basing each individualluy tailored treatment on research evidence as well as clear and concise goals.
Elisabeth is committed to giving back to the community and is currently engaged in tuition of indigenous students in musculoskeletal subjects at the University of Sydney.
Dale joined the team in 2013. Dale has graduated with distinction from the University Of Sydney, completing degrees in both Physiotherapy and Exercise & Sport Science. Dale was an outstanding student receiving two scholarships in his final years, allowing him to study abroad in Nepal where he participated in a Community Based Physiotherapy program.
Dale has had extensive experience with Soccer, AFL and Rugby League teams over the years. His previous experience included working with Parramatta Eels Toyota Cup team and he is currently the club Physiotherapist for Wentworthville Magpies Rugby League Club.
Being a former representative soccer player, he has a particular interest in sports related injuries and an exceptional outlook upon the injury process and prognosis for patients.
